Well I figured it would happen. I would have this great idea to write a blog and I'd write a few posts, then I'd forget.
That's exactly what happened. (why aren't there emojis on here. c'mon weebly)
I think that's one of my biggest downfalls- I have all these great ideas or plans or whatever and I get all excited and then I either complicate it, or try to do too much at one time and it all goes to hell. It's one of my goals.
I have a lot of goals too. Sigh.
Not that any of this is a problem, per say, I try to be organized, I try to do everything complete, but I take on too many things, without perfecting something, and end up overtired and overworked, and half gets thrown to the side.
A very distant acquaintance of mine, who is quite successful and writes a blog said one of his three keys to success were to under promise and over deliver. That's going to be my new mantra. Take on what I can, then kill it,
If anyone is reading (big if, I know)- comment below on some of your favorite ways to complete your goals, make cohesive, productive schedules and stick to them. I'd also love your favorite ways to get up in the morning- that is always the loftiest of goals for me. I'm definitely more of a night owl, so I don't mind working until 12 or 1am.. but when I need to get up and get stuff done, it's a huge struggle.
I started this blog as a way to get any of the readers 1) more involved with the store and feedback 2) maybe- at some point - do a gift guide during the holidays (lolooolllll) 3) and because I've always wanted to start a blog. Not that I feel that I have any deep insights or expect it to be far reaching, but because I always have a lot on my mind and feel like putting it out in the universe, with the hopes that someone else can empathize and give some advice.
So the store. What's been going on there, since that is reason #1 for starting this in the first place, not to ramble about my lack of follow through on certain projects.
We've got a big line in the works, that I'm hesitant but really excited about, that I'll tell you about when I'm less hesitant-- super helpful, I know. But I think it'll make our store your favorite place to shop at and it will create a lot less searching on etsy. If you think you know what it is-- comment below ;)
Jewelry wise- same old, same old. Nothing super new in the store-- we have a few new Alex and Ani Bracelets, some new Mantraband, new summer charms from Pandora and that's it for right now. We've been prepping for graduation gifts which leads me to our ........
New personalization line-- Paparte! When you come in, ask one of the ladies about it. It's a personalization line where you go up to the computer, tap-tap-tap, pick the product you want (wine glass, tumbler, flip flops, key chain), pick the pattern or colors or theme you want, add the name or location and SEND!
You have a personalized product in less than 10 minutes!
It's pretty awesome. We have a lot of people complain that there aren't enough grad items or Amsterdam specific items or things with names on them or whatever it may be! All valid, all understandable. Now we have it!
Next Up... Sidewalk Sale
If you aren't aware- we do our sidewalk sale every single May/June and run it through most of the summer. Here's the issue- we never seem to get rid of everything and always are adding more stuff to it. Therefore... more stuff!
Y'all. What a week, what a week.
Last week I was in the South working on our Manteo, NC location-- for all my Outer Banks travelers- this is a MUST see store. We have put SO much love, creativity and fun into this store.. If you're in the area, type in The Christmas Shop and check out our sister store.
SO, with being in the South for a week (which wasn't all work, I was able to head to Asheville for the weekend which was AMAZING)- I got super behind on work. Whenever you guys are in the store and see little stacks of products- that means I am WAYYYYY behind on displays or I have been gone or both. Luckily today, I was able to clean up a bunch of areas.
But with that, I want to go back and re-do those areas so they look completely different. I'm sure some of our frequent shoppers have noticed when I get into a re-decorating frenzy. Signs everywhere. Stands on the floor.
I digress. It's been a long week, as previously mentioned.
I did an email last night with our top 5 favorite gifts for Mother's Day-- and those were just the beginning. We've been trying to find a lot of unique gifts over the past few months, without getting too expensive or funky.
Because I'm exhausted and Southern Charm is almost over, I'm going to post them below and do a little blurb in order up here-- and I'm throwing in another one for good measure. I'll post either tomorrow or Friday with our next 5 favorites :)
Welcome to our first blog post!
I've been thinking about putting together a blog for awhile- but as with most things, it was pushed aside until I had a little more time. So here we are! Some time on my hands this evening and some ideas of what to put in the blog this week--- we're finally doing it!
A little about me and June's-- I'm Lauren, granddaughter of June who founded our store in 1979. We're coming up on our 50th anniversary which is just insane to me. I currently run the store and I love it. Don't get me wrong- retail can be hard as hell, and there are customers and times I'd like to go hide- but the good times outweigh the bad and I love putting together a unique store for my customers.
That being said-- if you are reading this and own a company, know of a brand you love and we don't carry, have items you'd like to sell in store, shoot me an email: email@example.com. I try to get back to everyone, but it doesn't always happen right away.
Back to the blog. What will we talk about here? I'm honestly not 100% sure-- I'm definitely going to be presenting some of our top brands, gift ideas and hidden treasures in the store a lot of people forget about. We always hear the comment "there's just too much to look at". Totally true. We have a ton of small to large items and products get lost in there! So there is one thing. Another- this will probably take some time, but I would like to feature other businesses in the area. A tidbit about me: I have great intentions. But not always the best follow through. I'm working on that as we speak ;)
We're trying it guys! It probably won't be everyday- might not be every other day, but I'll try to make it as consistent as possible and would love to hear any suggestions you have.
